About Sobering Up Service - Port Augusta
An SA Health funded sobering up service run by the Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council (SA) Aboriginal Corporation at Port Augusta. Its published purpose is to provide a safe, care-oriented environment in which people found intoxicated in public may sober up, reducing the risk of harm to themselves or others and diverting them from police custody. The service operates seven days a week from 5pm to 9am, is free, and requires no referral. It is targeted at Aboriginal people, and a needle and syringe program also operates from the site. The telephone number published is ADAC's head office rather than a number for the Port Augusta site.
