About Yitjawudik Men's Recovery Centre
Yitjawudik is a 24-hour residential rehabilitation centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men aged 18 and over with alcohol or drug dependency. It sits on a 68-acre property at Toolamba in central Victoria, between Shepparton and Mooroopna, and takes referrals from across the state. The provider states the centre accommodates up to 12 men at a time and that the program runs for 16 weeks, which may be extended depending on individual needs. The program combines cultural knowledge, holistic alcohol and other drug treatment and the Twelve Step model, and includes individual and group counselling, narrative therapy, relapse prevention, on-Country visits, yarning circles and case management. Ngwala states there is a small cost to stay but does not publish the amount, and gives a typical wait of one to three months.
