About Inpatient Withdrawal Unit (Alcohol and Drug Services)
A statewide ten-bed inpatient withdrawal unit run by Tasmania's Alcohol and Drug Services on the ground floor of the Carruthers Building at St Johns Park, New Town. Admissions are planned, last seven to ten days and are made by the unit's doctors Monday to Friday, with a discharge plan arranged in advance. The unit provides medically supervised withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs, health education, stress management, relapse prevention and discharge planning. It is smoke-free, free of charge and accepts self-referral.
