About Alcohol and Drug Services Withdrawal Unit
The Withdrawal Unit is a Canberra Health Services inpatient unit in Building 7 at Canberra Hospital providing medically supervised withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs, with an outpatient alcohol withdrawal program also available. A team of nurses and medical specialists manages withdrawal, which the service says often requires medication. Care includes education groups, counselling and follow-up, liaison with self-help groups and specialist services, and information for family members. Access is through the Alcohol and Drug Service intake line.
