About Guthrie House

Guthrie House is a small women-only residential service in Enmore, inner Sydney, founded in 1979 by Sandra Willson as the first halfway house in New South Wales for women leaving prison. It takes women aged 18 and over who are involved in the criminal legal system, using substances and homeless or at risk of homelessness, and their accompanying children. The residential program runs three months and is followed by twelve to eighteen months of outreach, home visits and housing support.

Who they help: Women aged 18 and over, cisgender or transgender, who are currently involved in the criminal legal system, are using substances in a way that is impacting their wellbeing, and are experiencing or at risk of homelessness - including women coming directly out of a correctional centre on a Parole Order, Probation Order, Drug Court Order or Intensive Correction Order, and women with accompanying children in their care. Priority is given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, pregnant women, women with infants under 12 months, women experiencing domestic violence, and women assessed at medium to high risk of reoffending
