It is a Turning Point service funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health. Operating since 2006.

Dokotela is a national telehealth provider connecting patients to independent consultant psychiatrists, psychologists and geriatricians by secure video, with a stated focus on rural and regional Australia. A GP referral less than twelve months old is required for psychiatry; psychology needs a mental health care plan.
