THE SERVICE
Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services is the public alcohol and other drug arm of Hunter New England Local Health District. It runs counselling, an opioid treatment program with pharmacotherapy clinics at Newcastle West and Cessnock, cannabis and stimulant clinics at Watt Street Newcastle, a needle and syringe program, MERIT court diversion, a youth team for ages 12 to 18, hospital consultation liaison, and a twelve bed inpatient withdrawal unit at Belmont Hospital. Access is through the district's central intake line.

John Hunter Hospital at New Lambton Heights is Hunter New England Local Health District's tertiary referral hospital. Its drug and alcohol presence is a consultation liaison service run by the district's Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services, which assesses patients in the hospital and links them to district treatment.
The Lakeview Unit is a twelve-bed inpatient withdrawal management unit on the Belmont Hospital campus at Belmont, south of Newcastle, run by Hunter New England Local Health District's Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services. It admits men and women aged 18 and over for supervised withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs.
A fee-free centre for young people aged 12 to 25 in Maitland and the Hunter, operated by the Samaritans Foundation as lead agency under the headspace model.
